In this video, we’re going to learn some expressions that we can use in Spanish when we go to the shopping mall.Today we’re going to a shopping mall. I’m currently in Malaysia, and in Malaysia, there are many shopping malls. In this city, there are many malls nearby. In front of me, there is a shopping mall.Behind me, there is another mall. And to the side, there’s another mall.In Spanish, we can call it: centro comercial, plaza, or even just mall.
What can we do in a mall? In a mall, we can buy clothes, we can buy bags.Right at the main entrance, there’s a huge bag.We can also buy shoes and other accessories or even eat inside the mall.
Now I’m inside the mall.I want you to learn some expressions we use when we come to the mall. For example, we usually say: “I’m going to the shopping mall”“I’m going to the plaza” or “I’m going to walk around the mall”Or “Let’s walk around the mall” as well.
Next to me, you can see a clothing store. In clothing stores, you might want to try on an item.In Spanish we say: “¿Puedo probarme esta prenda?” (Can I try on this garment?)You go to the fitting rooms to try on the garment. In the fitting rooms, you try on the item and then decide whether to buy it or not.
One of the things we find the most in malls are the famous escalators. We either go up or down the escalators.Right now: “We’re going down the escalators.”So the expression would be: “I’m going down the escalators.”
“I came to eat at the mall.” Now we’re in the food court. This whole area is the food court. So where am I? I’m in the mall’s food court.I came to eat something here at the mall, but there are lots of people. There are tons of people eating at the mall.
An expression you can use with your family when you come to the mall is:“What do you want to eat?” “What are we going to eat?”“What do you feel like eating?”
But I didn’t come to eat in the food court because there are too many people. So we’re going to eat at a restaurant inside the mall.
Here we are in the restaurant inside the mall. We can see the menu clearly. All restaurants have the menu at the entrance. This restaurant has the menu at the entrance, and we can choose what we want to eat today.
I’m inside the restaurant and I already have the menu. On the menu, I’m going to order Korean food.I want to order this chicken dish and I want to order this other dish.
So the expressions you can use in a restaurant are:“I want ssal ssal sutik, one, and I also want chicken bulgogi.”“I want (dish name), and I also want (dish name).”
As I said, I’m in Malaysia, but a moment ago I spoke in Spanishto give you an example of the expressions we use in a restaurant if you are in a Spanish-speaking country.
The last expression you can also use in a restaurant:When you finish eating and want to pay the bill,The only expression you need is: “La cuenta, por favor.” (The bill, please.)
Inside the mall, there are stores that sell all kinds of items — perfume stores, cosmetic stores.Everything inside the mall are stores. I repeat: cosmetics store, perfume store. Here is another perfume store too. You’ll find shoe stores, clothing stores like I mentioned earlier.
And remember the same expression applies: “¿Puedo probarme esta prenda?” (Can I try on this garment?)And if you want to try on shoes, it’s the same: “¿Puedo probarme estos zapatos?” (Can I try on these shoes?)
When you try on shoes,You go into the shoe store, or what we also call a zapatería.Usually, you look for a shoe model, and the employee asks you:“What size do you wear?” or “What’s your shoe size?”You can say a number: “I wear size 25”“I wear size 25 and a half”In Mexico, we say shoe sizes like that. I’m not sure how they say it in your country, but that’s how it is in Mexico.
Above me is the brand Chanel.Inside this mall, you can find really expensive brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana. There are also many brands inside the mall.
You can also buy desserts inside the mall.I bought an ice cream. Ice cream is a dessert. This is the ice cream store, also known as heladería.There’s a huge and long line. People are standing in line, or as we also say, la cola.“I was in line” / “I was in the queue”
The expressions you can use when ordering ice cream are:“Give me an ice cream, please” or “I want an ice cream, please”In this case: “I ordered a boba sundae ice cream”“Give me a boba sundae, please”Or you can say: “I want a boba sundae, please”
In some shopping malls, there are small theme parks inside. In this mall, there’s a large theme park inside.
The expressions we normally use are like:“I’m going to ride a ride”Or “I’m going to ride the roller coaster” or “I’m going to ride the carousel”Those are the types of expressions we use when getting on an amusement ride.
In this theme park, there are amusement rides. This ride could be described as a roller coaster. There are carousel rides, spinning rides, and rides for different ages.
In this video, I only gave you some of the most common expressions used in a shopping mall.I hope you liked it, and I’ll see you in the next video.
